"Go Buy 'IMakeDreamsComeTrue.com'"
Over $10,000 worth of dreams were greenlit in just a few weeks, thanks to the generosity of TeeJ's social media community.
"IMakeDreamsComeTrue.com"
Back in 2014, our founder, TeeJ Mercer, a total #JesusFreak, was happily in the midst of her dream career as an award-winning TV Editor in Hollywood when she heard a voice nudging her to buy the domain
She was sure the Walt Disney Company, with whom she'd worked for almost a decade, had to own it. Despite her initial disbelief, she followed her instincts and was surprised to learn that the domain was available.
That's right.
Project Dreamlight all started with a simple whisper that led to a journey of making dreams a reality.
WAS BORN!
OUR REBIRTH
TeeJ and her merry band of misfits managed to raise
It was an epic 4 nights of June, complete with celebrity pop-ins, dance-offs with the DJ, and all kinds of shenanigan-filled surprises. Sooooo...
WAS REBORN!
Life happened and the greenlighting came to a halt until...
The pandemic of 2020 struck.
As a self-described loud, proud, insufferable, and unapologetic graduate of Howard University an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities,) TeeJ's heart broke when she watched graduations get canceled due to Covid-19.
So she did what she always does when she feels helpless--she prayed and asked God to show her how she could help.
The Answer?
JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT ADVENTURE
During HBCU Bingo, TeeJ met
a young grad who'd aged out of foster care.
Her social worker drove her to her HBCU, pulled up to the curb, and left her..left her to figure out this
HUGE life transition alone.
Again, TeeJ's heart was broken. She prayed and this time, our first official initiative under Project Dreamlight...
WAS BORN!
Move-In Day Mafia is a “mob” of volunteers who descend on HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) to provide dorm room makeovers and ongoing assistance primarily to freshmen who have aged out of foster care, are homeless, or have little to no support.
In our inaugural year, with the help of our celebrity interior designer, Nikki Klugh of Nikki Klugh Design Group, we took care of 13 freshmen at Paul Quinn College in Dallas, TX.
For the 2023-2204, we are walking with up to 39 freshmen at FIVE HBCUs.
